Sundown Audio Z-12 V.4 D2 REV.2 12" 2000 Watt RMS Dual 2-Ohm Car Subwoofer

The Sundown Audio Z v.4 Series is the second driver in the Sundown's woofer line-up to offer their "ultra-high excursion" suspension and frame designs. The 10, 12 and 15 inch models feature their custom tooled and patented frames and the 18" model uses the tried and true 18 inch, 6-spoke basket with a custom tooled adapter to allow for a full 10" diameter spider. Sundown mates these new platforms to a triple stacked magnet with a 220mm diameter motor structure featuring a hyper-extended pole and extreme clearances (allowing over 4" p-p travel before mechanical bottom). This motor powers a 3" diameter 8-layer flat wound Aluminum voice coil wound on a thick, black aluminum former to incredible levels of excursion.

As with the X series the Z v.4 was designed from the ground-up to become the new standard in the low-frequency / small ported box subwoofer category. They will work in anything from Sundown's traditional small enclosures (such as the SA and Z v.3 series) and up to about 50% larger than those suggestions for the maximum amount of low-frequency extension. These enclosures sizes are smaller than those recommended for many other woofers on the market today - all the while retaining industry leaded levels of low-end output.

The Z v.4 series is really a different kind of woofer due to its incredibly linear suspension. They are designed for the LOWEST level of bass extension possible - they are not what we would consider SPL drivers; but they will get extremely loud and clean. If you are after the lowest possible extension with higher power handling than the X Series, the Z v.4 series is the driver for you.

Due to the extremely low level of suspension induced distortion the typical "punchy" upper-bass peak in the 40-60 Hz range that occurs with traditional woofers when pushed to high excursion does not occur. This "punch" is caused by a tightening of the suspension over stroke leading to increased FS and Qts figures. In other words it is distortion that some consider to be pleasing; but its distortion none-the-less.

Compared to the X series the Z v.4 carries a higher power rating, has a much larger motor, adds a magnet ID faraday or shorting ring (both feature a pole cap faraday ring), and features a stiffer suspension. You can think of the Z v.4 as a bigger version of the X series with even more output and power handling potential. Both drivers have a very similar sound.
